TIMOTHY A. O’KEEFE
Timothy A. O’Keefe is an appellate and criminal law attorney with more than 20 years’ experience handling high-profile lawsuits in Colorado and Kansas. He is tenacious in resolving clients’ cases — obtaining dismissals as soon as possible or preparing the best possible defense.
Through research, Mr. O’Keefe conducts thorough investigations and uses it as a blueprint at trial. He primarily practices criminal, juvenile delinquency, DUI and traffic law, effectively arguing the reasons prosecution should dismiss the case or provide the client a better result than another defendant in the same situation might get. He has represented many clients’ civil protection order hearings, primarily respondents, and quasi-criminal litigation, such as liquor license and food stamp violations.
Mr. O’Keefe has served as the lead defense attorney in nearly 100 jury trials, including cases for attempted murder, sexual conduct and assault. More than half of those trials involved felony charges. He has also conducted jury trials for misdemeanors in county courts across the Front Range and in several Denver metro municipal courts. His most notable case was representing Coloradoan charged with seven felony counts, including attempted murder, for setting fire to two condominium buildings. The case resulted in mistrial on all seven counts.
Mr. O’Keefe obtained a Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law in 1997. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history and graduated cum laude in 1986.
Mr. O’Keefe represented a Fort Collins man charged with seven felony counts, including attempted murder, for setting fire to two condominium buildings. In that case — in which almost 100 witnesses testified — the jury deliberated for more than five days before the court declared a mistrial on all seven counts.
