TIMOTHY A. O’KEEFE
Timothy O’Keefe has practiced law for more than two decades and is licensed in Colorado and Kansas. Mr. O’Keefe practices primarily in criminal, juvenile delinquency, DUI and traffic law. He also has represented several clients in civil protection order hearings (primarily respondents) and quasi-criminal litigation, such as liquor license and food stamp violations. Mr. O’Keefe has vast experience in criminal and DUI law. He has been the lead defense attorney in almost 100 jury trials, including cases for attempted murder, sexual conduct and assault. More than half of those trials involved felony charges, as he spent seven years as a public defender in Kansas and Colorado. However, he has also conducted jury trials for misdemeanors in county courts across the Front Range and in several Denver metro municipal courts. He also has represented clients in several high-profile matters, such as a Fort Collins man charged with seven felony counts – including attempted murder – for setting fire to two condominium buildings. In that case -- in which almost 100 witnesses testified -- the jury deliberated more than five days before the court declared a mistrial on all seven counts. Mr. O’Keefe is tenacious in trying to get his clients’ cases dismissed as soon as possible. Mr. O’Keefe believes the best defense is a good offense, bringing the fight to the prosecution rather than waiting to see what the prosecution will offer. Mr. O’Keefe does that by thoroughly researching and investigating the matter, providing a position letter and any relevant exhibits to the prosecution, and then arguing to the prosecution the reasons to dismiss the case or provide the client a better result than another defendant in the same situation might get. Even if not successful in getting the case dismissed, Mr. O’Keefe knows this type of preparation will be a good blueprint for successfully defending the client at trial.
Mr. O’Keefe loves the outdoor opportunities which Colorado provides. He has hiked several of the state’s “Fourteeners” and other high peaks. He also is an avid skier. One of he and his wife’s favorite pastimes is “moosing” – watching moose in the wild in northern Colorado. His favorite sport is football and he has been a regular Air Force Academy season ticket holder since 2011.
Mr. O'Keefe is licensed to practice in state courts in Colorado and Kansas and is currently admitted to Federal District Courts in Colorado. He received a Juris Doctorate from the Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, KS.
